Black Flower Hair Clip

So much for my good intentions!  Going back to work and other projects have prevented me from blogging but I have been crafting.  One fun project I made this past week is this giant flower hair clip.  I thought 4" across was a little big but I tried it on and it actually looks great.  It's for a Senior Photo Shoot.  She's going to wear a black sweater so I think this will look great in her hair and stand out nicely against her blond hair.

Red, White & Blue Hairclips

I made these hairclips to send to a girl I used to babysit in AZ for her b'day which is on Independence Day.  I had such good intentions back in May when I made them but then somehow June slipped past me and here they are.  hopefully I'll get a chance to mail them off tomorrow.  They'll be late but worth they wait right?  They are completely handsewn.  I just used some felt that I had on hand and cut 6 circles.  One circle lays flat.  The other circle are folded in fourths and sewn around with one sticking up in the middle.  I'm sure you've seen tons of these all over the place and they are quite easy to make and so cute.

Linking up to this party.

Trade - Rosette Brooch for Bloomies

A couple weeks ago I traded this brooch I made

for this hairclip:

Isn't it so cute?!?  My friend in CA has this amazing business called Bloomies.  I secretly wish I was her next door neighbor and that we could craft together everyday.  We seem to have a lot in common.  Both of us move from one project to the next and can't wait to try out new things.  She frequently sells over her facebook page, has an etsy shop and also showcases her products in a shop in Newport Beach.

She also has a very talented mother who sews prolifically and is an amazing baker.

I was so delighted to receive the hariclip in my mailbox last Tues. on our way to Billings to celebrate our 3rd anniversary.  It went with what I was wearing so I immediately put it in my hair.  I received several compliments on it throughout the day.  Everyone needs their own Bloomies!

Elastic Headbands

I snapped this picture as I was packing up for the boutique on Saturday.  A couple of these sold but I still have some available.  I listed all the elastic headbands I currently have in stock in my artfire shop.

Here is one of my happy customers from Saturday.  The headbands were the best sellers followed by flannel burp rags.  I'll post my remaining inventory of those soon.

Sisters Rock!

We invited the Sister Missionaries to have dinner with us tonight.  On the way in the door they spotted my pile of headbands so after dinner they went through them and picked a couple out.  We had such a fun time visiting with them.  They are so cute and look great with their new headbands.  They are both from UT.  I told them I hadn't blogged yet today so they let me take their picture so I could post it.  I'm so glad we have Sister Missionaries in our town!

10 more headbands

I picked up these stretchy headbands when we went to town last week.  Finished them up today.  I tried one on and it's a bit tight for my liking.  I think these would be best on young girls.  I had fun picking out the fabrics to match the headbands.

crocheted flower hairclips

Last month when I was in ID my cousin's daughter asked me to make some crocheted flower hairclips similar to one she had purchased.  It had a fabric covered button for the center but since I don't have the supplies to make those, I decided to use antique buttons instead.  I went through my button collection and found a few that I liked.  My mother in law stopped past the house last Wed. evening and I showed her what I was working on.  She said I could go through her buttons and use some of them as well.  It took me a couple of tries but I finally figured out a pattern that I like.  Some of my crochet thread was quite thick so I could just one strand but for most of it I had to double it up which required stringing it through the house and then wrapping it back up doubled which was a fun endeavor.  As you can see, these flowers have anywhere from 6 - 8 petals since I was trying out different styles but I'll probably be making them all the same from here on out.  Now I just need to attach them to some alligator clips to finish them up.

Custom Order Headbands

My friend custom ordered a couple of headbands for her girls at my boutique Saturday and I finished them up yesterday.  The green/purple combos are for her little girl that is all about Tinkerbell and the pink headbands are for her girly girl.  Seeing the their faces yesterday when they picked up their headbands was priceless.  They were so excited.  Makes me happy that I can bring joy to little princesses.

Happy Belated Birthday Kyra!

Since I "moved" to WY just a few days after my nieces b'day I had every intention of giving her a present.  I was pretty sure that I'd placed it in a drawer so that it would be easy to find.  When she was helping us unload the truck I even told her that I had a present for her.  Well, now it's been a few weeks and I still hadn't found it so I went to plan b.  The last two times I saw her she was wearing a silk flower hairclip that I gave her for Christmas 2009 so of course that won me over and I decided to give her another hair accessory.  This rosette was mostly sewn so all I had to do was add the clip and finish it off.  I couldn't find my premade origami boxes but I did know where my stack of 12 x 12 paper is so I made the box.  The "tag" is actually an old business card.  I added a brad to it and just ran my marker around the edge and wrote on it with my sharpie.  Walked over and delivered it lastnight and she loved it so now I won't have that weighing me down any longer. haha.  It actually felt great to make a present.  I really love doing that and with my craft supplies still half packed I haven't been working on anything lately and I really miss it.  Hopefully I'll be organized enough again soon to start crafting again and get back in the swing of things.

Lots of Headbands!

Made these headbands yesterday for the boutique on Sat.  Will make a couple dozen more before then.  Great for Christmas presents.  Each one will be from a different fabric so if you see one you like get it before it's gone!

A dozen headbands

Which one is your favorite?
In my spare time here and there I've been working on more lace headbands.  I must be favoring green lately because there's more green than any other color.  They are kind of bright but if you are going to wear a headband you might as well make a statement with it right?  I'm excited to take them to the boutique on Sat. and see what people think of them.  I love that they fit anyone since you just tie them on.  Just wanted to share what I've made so far.  They've been fun to make.

Custom Order - Bridesmaid Hairclips

Just over a week ago I received an inquiry about making rosette hairclips for a wedding today.  Since I was out of town over the weekend I picked up the fabric on Mon. and made two different prototypes.  I'd never made a rosette out of satin before and holding the two layers together proved to be a bit of a challenge and quite time consuming.  I had never attempted a poppy hairclip either and had fun making that.  I'll have to make more of those in the future.
Which one do you like better?
The bride liked the rosettes better so I made 5 more of those.  They are completely hand sewn and have an alligator type hairclip sewn on the back.
All packaged up and ready to be delivered!  Hope the wedding went well today and that the bride was happy with the hairclips.

Cherries & Lime

I had this cute cherry fabric that my mom gave me and a piece of lime lace I picked up a while back.  This morning I made a rosette and attached it to a length of the lace to make a cute headband.  I can't wait to wear it today.

Birthday Headband

IMG_4504 Went to Josh’s cousin’s daughter’s birthday dinner yesterday and this is what I made her for a present.  Just wrapped a headband with a strip of tshirt and attached a rosette made from the hem of the tshirt.  So simple and yet so cute.  Everyone loved it.

Closeup of rossette.  This picture turned out clearer since I remembered to use the closeup focus.

Twenty is better than one!

A few months ago I was asked to come up with an idea for a matching hair accessory for the girls for the Primary Program in Sept. The boys will all have matching ties but we weren’t sure what to do for the girls. I wanted to incorporate a fabric rosette. At first I was thinking about making hairclips but figured out that those might not work for everyone depending on their hairstyle and the thickness of their hair. Finally I realized that headbands were the way to go. Not only are the hugely popular right now but they would fit everyone from 4 – 12 years of age and it wouldn’t matter what hairstyle they had. After making an initial prototype and getting it approved by the Primary Presidency I made all 20 that we think we’ll need. It’s nice to have completed a project early and not have to worry about getting it done last minute.

Spring Boutique

Just a sneak peak of some of the items that I made for my Spring Boutique tonight at my home from 6-8pm. Hope you can make it!
