Sunflower Quilt

Here's the quilt I was talking about in my last post.  The sunflower material I bought a long time ago.  I think I was going to serge the edges and make it into a picnic tablecloth.  My mom spotted it when she was helping me pack up to move a couple months ago so she took it and brought it back to me a couple weeks ago in the form of this quilt.  I really like the fabric that she picked out to go with it.  I'm so lucky to have a mom who is an avid quilter.  She is constantly making quilts to give away and every once in a while I'm lucky enough to receive one.  Without her I wouldn't be addicted to crafting since.  Thanks mom!

L.A. County Quilter's Guild Quilt Show

The quilt show is underway and I hear that it's great.  I'm friends with several of the members and do their website.  My mom has 9 quilts displayed in the show this year.  It's held every other year.  So if you happen to see this and are looking for something to do on this fine So. Cal. day head on over to the Ritz Gardens in Whittier and prepare to be impressed by nearly 300 quilts on display.  Vendors, Raffles, Silent Auctions and more allow you to gather supplies to make your own quilt or buy one that's already made.  I hear that the raffle quilt is absolutely gorgeous and hey, if you happen to win it please keep in mind that my b'day is in two weeks and it would make a great gift.  Halloween quilts are my fav. esp. make a scrap bag!

hmmm... what can I make out of these leftover rag quilt blocks and a few strips of leftover fabric?

This cute totebag! I'm such a hoarder that I hate throwing out perfectly usuable materials and am thrilled when I come across good ideas for using up supplies that I already have. It's been a lot of fun the last 24 hours figuring out how to use the fabric I already have to make bags esp. since some of the fabric has been precut and even sewn together. A good challenge!

I absolutely adore making rag quilts. I've made lots and lots of them over the last couple of years. The are great because they are so forgiving. You don't have to be perfect to have them look good. Saturday at the Boutique in the Barn one booth was selling the cutest rag quilt bags. They were quite the steal. Customers snatched them up so fast. I really wanted one but couldn't decide which one I liked best and then they were gone... I wish I knew if they had a website so I could link to it because they were super cute and very well made.
Well, I couldn't stop thinking about them and then lastnight I remembered that my mom had given me some leftover squares from a rag quilt she made for herself and also some odd strips of flannel leftover from anothe rag quilt that I think we gave away.

Of course now comes the time consuming part of sniping the edges to make them fray. I figure I can work on that later watching a movie or something. Right now I'm still in sewing mode and have leftovers from another quilt calling to me so I think I'll make another bag!

Little Quilts

One of the main advantages of residing in such a large house is that I'm finally able to go through all my boxes of treasures and make new discoveries. I came across a box a while ago with tons of Little Quilt fabric in it. Being overwhelmed and not knowing what to do with it I set it aside. A few days ago I decided to tackle it. First I sorted everything out. I was pleasantly surprised to find many quilts done and a few just needing the binding sewn on. I'm not sure what my mom and I were thinking when we bought all this fabric. Surely we had a plan. I decided that I'd just keep one quilt or kit each for me and pass the rest on. I started putting kits together with the remaining fabric. In addition to the panels we of course bought matching fabric for the backs and bindings.

If I ever make it to Atlanta, GA I will definantly be visiting the Little Quilts shop. They have super cute stuff that I've admired for many years.

Just listed some of the quilt kits on etsy. Hopefully some fellow fans of Little Quilts will find them. They are so cute.
